Ideas are all around us if we keep our eyes and minds open. I found myself having a date night with my boyfriend the other night, one of the last before the baby arrives, we went to a nice restaurant and had an awesome Italian meal and then as we’re walking back to the car he happened to glance over at the dumpsters that I conveniently parked next to. Right there as if there were rays of light shining from it was an old, wooden fruit/vegetable crate with the mesh wire and everything. Both of our eyes lit up and even though we just got done with our fancy dinner and were wearing our nice outfits we couldn’t help the urge to reach into the dumpster and grab that crate! We had just been talking about a new idea of overlaying a photo or image on a crate similar to that and low and behold the crate found us! Needless to say, we’re both super excited to work on that project this weekend J
This was just a simple reminder to us that no matter where you are or what you’re doing you can’t stop thinking about different projects and ideas out there. We always try to keep our eyes and minds open to new concepts and ideas and typically the projects that we do tend to find us. Instead of spending hours brainstorming and not getting anywhere but more frustrated we go outside, walk around, for a walk in the woods with our son and dog or in the city among a lot of other people. Ideas start to flood in if you let them. I hope everyone else has some fun weekend plans and can’t wait to see what new projects will come out of them!
We all hit a rut at some point in our careers where you just begin to wonder if following your dreams is going to really get you to your end goal, your dream! Over the past couple of weeks I began to hit that rut and wondering if I’m doing the right thing. Trying to find inspiration among all of the nay sayers was posing to be a problem. Then things began to fall into place, staying with my positive attitude paid off. I started my new consignment opportunity in a great little shop in Cleveland, attended an Artwalk in Cleveland where I met a lot of great artists and heard a lot of great stories of inspiration, attended another artfest this past weekend where I met even more artists, many of which are just starting out just like me and then Friday morning I woke up to yet another sale only this time it was 2 illustration prints! Seeing an order of two items just really made my morning, no it made my weekend!
I started to lose faith in myself and started listening to all of the negativity around me but then realized we all go through this. You need to reach out to like-minded people, to other artists, writers, musicians and share your thoughts and ideas and help motivate each other. Don’t be afraid to talk to artists you don’t know, if you don’t talk to them you’ll never network and build relationships, you’ll stay in your own world going in circles. There are so many great people out there who are willing to help you and wanting to hear your story. Let’s all try to reach out to at least one new person this week and learn a new story and inspiration. Please feel free to share all of your stories on here, I would love to hear the many great stories that you find out there!
After the much needed rain yesterday it looks like the sun has decided to appear! Was so afraid the weekend was going to be a wash but it looks like God is working with us this weekend 🙂 If you’re in the greater Cleveland, OH area please stop out at the Art Walk in Little Italy this weekend http://clevelandlittleitaly.com/art-walk/ There will be plenty of new, up and coming artists as well as great food and restaurants and some awesome people! This is the first Art Walk that I’ll be participating in and I’m really hoping it goes well. I’m getting a great vibe from the city and it’s people and would love for everyone to come and join in the fun. I personally will have my knitted and crocheted items featured for the summer time but there are many other artists of many other mediums that will be there too. If this goes well I may return in October with a few of my illustrations and paintings. Can’t wait and can’t wait to see everyone there. If you see me, please feel free to stop me and say hi!
