Yesterday I had a great opportunity to sit down and talk with Amy Tan of The TreeSpace Studio. I went into this meeting not sure exactly what to expect, I had a million thoughts running through my head and never sat down to discuss my business with anyone like this before. I wasn’t sure which route we were going to take in conversation, I wasn’t sure what the most important questions that I had would be and let me just say that I was amazed at how smoothly and quickly the conversation went.
Amy was able to pick out one small phrase from what I had said and made us go back and look at that. Something that I didn’t think even mattered so much, or didn’t matter right now. After discussing it with her she made me realize just how big of a deal it was and so I begin my journey of restructuring my business plan!
I am truly excited for this new plan and the journey it’s going to take me on. I feel like I’ve worked hard shaping and molding my current business and the thought of going in a slightly different direction is a little daunting but the excitement that I have is enough to make me believe this is the right direction to go and before I go any further on my current path I need to reassess my situation.
Amy is holding a Create-Your-Story workshop and registration closes at the end of the month. Whether you have an existing business or just trying to get off the ground, I highly recommend that you reach out to her and definitely check out what her workshop has to offer.
Until next time, everyone have a wonderful Easter!!!!
P.S. Don’t forget to enter my Repin to Win, this is the last weekend, a winner will be chosen on Monday, April 1st!
My week started off very hopeful and I couldn’t wait for my business seminar on Tuesday evening but I ended up letting my frustrations get the best of me. I think the lack of sleep and working for 8 hours got to me when it came time for the seminar. I drove downtown and found the building without a hitch then it came to park. Now let me explain, parking is not my best feature! Especially parallel parking so parking downtown in a city never excites me. I arrived about 15 minutes early, thinking oh plenty of time to find a spot and walk to the building not a problem. About 25 minutes later I’m now late for the class drove in about 100 circles around many blocks and could only find “no parking” signs or “bus loading and unloading zone” lots that said “Faculty and staff”, “unauthorized vehicles will be towed”.
Frustrated, annoyed, tired and hungry I texted my boyfriend and said I was coming home.
The good news is that there’s another seminar coming up in two weeks and my boyfriend said we’ll drive downtown ahead of time and find a couple of parking options for me. I’m definitely making it to the next seminar! And if I can’t find a place to park I’m calling the department to have them walk me through it!
Haha maybe I should just stay in the suburbs!
In the meantime I thought I would share with you pics of my two recent murals, I realized that I hadn’t posted any completion pics!
Here’s the picture of my full wall mural of SenSource, I sketched out the ‘S’ for them and they had a professional painter and his crew fill in the blocks of color.
And my mural for Stefko’s Tavern, this one was approximately 4’ x 4’ and I originally wanted to project the image to the wall but unfortunately it was in a hallway and I wouldn’t be able to get the projection image to the right size so this was freehand with a straightedge and protractor! Very proud of the lettering and exact angles!
I can definitely say that it’s been a few years since I’ve sat in a classroom, ready and willing to learn! I often feel like it was just yesterday that I was in college but in all actuality it’s been quite a few years, but with that said I’ve always thought that you’re never too old to learn something new and you can never know everything that there is to know!
That’s why I’ve signed up for my first seminar and it’s tonight! Growing up I never was one to love school but I must say that I’m quite excited to attend and to see what this is all about.
Although my life is quite hectic and I always like to have a million coals in my fire I’m excited! I’m exhausted from life with a new baby and haven’t had real sleep in 4 nights, I’m on my third cup of coffee for the day but I’m so eager to start this seminar. I’m hoping my endorphins will keep me awake and alert throughout this class tonight and I’ll be able to learn and network and grow as a person and a business leader.
In three short hours I’ll be sitting in a classroom soaking up knowledge like a sponge! Stop back tomorrow for my run down on my first seminar!!
I cannot believe it’s already time to change our clocks and spring forward! I don’t know about you but this year is flying by. I’m really looking forward to spring and our days getting longer and actually seeing the sun shining when I leave work at 5PM.
I’m also being inspired by the simple phrase “spring forward”, this time of year we always use it in reference to changing our clocks but I love the idea of springing forward in life and with our goals. Though I’ve been keeping busy the past few weeks, I’ve also found myself in a bit of a rutt mentally (could be these long cold and dreary days) and just haven’t been able to find my way out. I want to be able to take this weekend and take a big leap forward with my personal goals and business and I want to get outside a little bit and enjoy the warm weather we’re supposed to have come our way. I think it’s a great time of year to look at our goals that we made at New Years and see if we’re on track and possibly create new goals for the remainder of the year.
As I was doing some catch up reading yesterday I was going through last year’s issues of HOW Design magazine and ran across one article that talked about the difference between your Mission and Vision statements and how you should have those in place and set them up around you as a reminder of what you’re working towards and who you are. Reading this article got me to thinking about how I don’t have anything in place and though I know where I want to go and who I want to be it may be helpful to jot it down, then I realized it was going to be a lot harder to place all of those thoughts into two little sentences! So here’s my rough draft, as I continue to think about this it may change but here are my Mission and Vision statements:
Mission Statement: Artist that creates one of a kind designs in many different mediums for all walks of life.
Vision Statement: To become a strong peer in the art industry while giving back and serving our community.
Do you have statements in place for your business? What are they? I’d love to hear about them, please share yours in the comments above!
Spring is almost upon us and I for one cannot wait! I’ve lived in Ohio my entire life and every year I cannot wait for the winter months to pass us. Don’t get me wrong, I love the seasons and I love snow and comfy sweaters and cute boots! I just really hate being cold and driving in the snow and ice…not fun!
One of the things that I love about spring is the warmth in the air, not quite hot and you still need a light jacket but its now warm enough that you hear the birds chirping again and you can put away your bulky scarves and gloves. This also means that it’s time to swap out wardrobes and bring in some spring fashion. This spring knitted jewelry is the perfect anytime accessory and I have many knitted bracelets and necklaces in my collection so you can accessorize your perfect outfit! Below are a couple of my most popular pieces but please feel free to stop by my shop to check out other items or stop by Etsy to see what other artists have created!
