Over the weekend I got some rather devastating news that my cousin of only 25 years passed away. She was way to young and it’s really hard to believe that she’s actually gone. God has truly received another angel, today they will be laying her to rest and I know there will be many prayers going out to the family.
As I reflect on her life, I’m brought to think of all the happy memories we had growing up. I remember when she was born and the first time I got to hold her. I felt our families were closer back then and we spent many summer nights at their house, playing in the yard or swimming at her grandparents next door. So many wonderful memories, I hope she knew just how much she was loved by every one of us and that she’s in a much happier place now.
This time of reflection is also making me think of my own life, of the one’s I love and my children. Our time here is short and we need to make the most of every minute, live life to the fullest and don’t take things for granted because tomorrow may tell a different story.
We love you Danielle, may you rest in peace!
With a million things going on, on a daily basis in our lives its easy to sometimes just come to a halt and find yourself in a rut. Doing the same things day in and day out gets mundane after a while and we all find ourselves needing to find a little spice in our lives from time to time.
I’m brought to this topic today because there are a couple people in my life right now that are stuck in this rut and trying to find their way out. There are many things that you can do to help motivate yourself, one of the things that I love to do is to get out! I work in an office all day and then on the weekends I find myself doing chores all around the house and I never get to just step outside for a moment, stop and smell the roses so to speak. Find a new park to visit or even visit a museum or new part of town that you’ve never been to.
I also enjoy picking up a good book, let yourself get lost in a story and you’ll often find your mind starts wandering.
Sometimes I even like to start a new project, even if its nothing super creative, I’ll often find myself thinking of other things I can’t wait to do next and rushing to finish my current project to move onto the next. Below is a pic of my latest hat, this one is for ME!! 🙂 I realized I’ve been making so many custom pieces for everyone else that I’ve been wearing items from 3 years ago or even store bought items! Here’s my all new, 100% wool hat, it’s almost complete, just needs a pom-pom on top which I’ll make tonight! I know it’s just in time for spring but I’m sure I’ll have plenty of opportunities to wear it next winter!
What do you like to do to help motivate yourself? How do you get yourself out of a rut? I’d love to hear in the comments above!
What a fun and refreshing weekend!! Yesterday was my boyfriends birthday so to celebrate we took a little weekend getaway to Splash Lagoon! Sometimes those little weekend trips that are still close to home are the best, we were able to drive up Friday evening and completely turn off for the weekend. Putting down that darn cell phone is always tough but its often much needed!
First thing Saturday morning we headed down to the pools to try and beat the crowds, plus we have a toddler who wakes up at the crack of dawn so we were waiting for the park to open! I was so proud of little Drew, he always claimed to be afraid of heights and never wanted to ride anything that might be scary. He went off with his dad and the very first water slide they chose was called the Hurricane Hole and its just that (thank goodness I was across the park with our other son and had no idea he was going on this thing), it shoots you down a tube slide in complete darkness then opens up into a huge vat that can get you going up to 40 mph spinning in circles as you work your way to this hole in the bottom that spits you out into a pool of 6 ft water! He LOVED that slide and ran back to do it again. Side note, I watched a grown adult get pulled out of that pool by the life guard later that day…needless to say, I did not go on that slide!
Thankfully I was safely positioned over at the kiddie pool with Ethan 🙂 Who we have now learned is EXTREMELY shy! The pools weren’t too busy first thing in the morning and this kid did the death grip around my neck with his arms. He would not let me put him down, I even tried to sit in the pool with him on my lap as he screamed and cried the whole time. We thought maybe as the day went on things would get better, but nope, he clung to my neck as he looked at all of the people around him. We even found a warmer pool, like bath water, he calmed down a bit but would not let go of my neck.
I think we enjoyed our time at the water park even though some of us hardly got into the pools, but let me just say, we were all REALLY happy to be home! There’s nothing like sleeping in your own bed (with no toddler kicking you, rolling into you, taking your pillow) and having all of your toys at your fingertips 🙂 Ethan pretty much emptied his toy box the minute we got home and little Drew was back on his Kindle. Exhausting but much needed time away!!
* Let me just add this, the Comfort Inn attached to the park was awesome, the room was very clean, we got the kids bunk bed sweet. Drew had his own little privacy wall and TV and DVD player. Very nice stay, we recommend it to any young families 🙂 Oh, one minus…the “hot” breakfast, wasn’t so “hot” we had to go back to the room to microwave it and we were there as soon as the food came out!
Yay!! I think many of us have been waiting for the first day of spring to arrive, at least those of us in the Northeast! Now if we could just get the snow to stop falling. Wishful thinking I know!
With the warm weather on our heals I feel like I’m breathing a little sigh of relief. Finished up a few more custom projects and I think I’m ready to begin designing my wedding invites. I almost forgot how much I missed the design world and typography and just “playing” on the computer 🙂 I have so many ideas running through my head right now and have my sketch pad in hand!
Also, I learned something else about today, not only is it the first day of spring but it’s also International Day of Happiness!! Stop on my my friend’s blog to learn more about it and for the opportunity to win a Panera gift card!!
And just because we’re talking about being happy and enjoying the thought of spring, here’s a handsome pic of my youngest yesterday at school. So handsome with his fedora!!
You know, after watching many of my friends get married and seeing so many different TV shows about weddings I really should have known that this would be a lot of work. But in normal Melissa fashion I took the “everything will somehow come together approach”. My wedding is another 6 months away and I have just now decided to start planning this shindig! And actually now that I’m thinking of this, 6 months isn’t that much time!! haha As if running my family and my business weren’t enough to turn me gray!
I never realized just how many different resources are out there to help you plan your big day. Going through site after site trying to figure out exactly what I want, how do I not know what I want? So indecisive! But thank you Pinterest! I think they might actually save me in my procrastination, so many fabulous ideas and so many creative people out there!
Found the venue, picked the date, started my guest list and will start designing the invites this week. Aye so much more to do!!
In just two days my little one will be 18 months old, I don’t know where the time has gone! He has grown so much and is learning so much, it’s amazing how smart they are and how much they soak up of the world around them. Watching him grow and play and interact with the people and animals around him every day is truly a blessing, totally worth all of my sleepless nights 😀
As this boy grows and matures his true personality is starting to show through, he may be a little bullheaded, stubborn and demanding at times but it’s because he knows what he wants.
He has a very soft heart and loves deep, he knows and understands the different ways to play with his brother, compared to the dog compared to our two cats.
He loves to give great big bear hugs.
And he LOVES to wear his hat, even to bed!
He loves the outdoors and never wants to come in the house even when its 20 degrees.
He enjoys Sesame Street and Spongebob (against his dad’s wishes). And loves music and dancing.
My little man is pretty darn ornery too 🙂 Here are a few shots from last weekends shoot that I did with him, he refused to look at the camera and would smirk when I would try to get him to look up. May attempt a 2nd shoot this weekend, we’ll see what mother nature holds for us!
Ok, this was not going to be my original post for today, but I watched this amazingly, gut-wrenching video that would just bring tears to your eyes when you watch it. It’s a nice reminder of what children go through in this country and around the world every day, that we should not cast judgement on others until you walk in their shoes. Everyone has a story and everyone was dealt their own hand and its how we all work through those ups and downs. There are many families struggling with the same issues that are in this video, please take a moment to think of those around you.
The weekend always seems to fly by and this weekend was no exception! The weather has been a little nicer around here lately too so I’m thankful for that even though we’re supposed to get another clipper again tomorrow. Gotta take what we can get.
My boys were enjoying the nice weather last night as I cleaned up the kitchen from dinner, when we glanced out to make sure everything was ok and saw the two of them playing so sweetly I instantly had to grab the camera and snap a few pics!
We also had a little excitement at the house, my nearly 18 month old managed to climb out of his crib. We had a feeling this day was coming we just didn’t have everything as ready as we liked haha Toddlers always keep you on your toes! We’re now in the process of making him a little toddler bed and those pics are to follow, hopefully it will be done by the weekend!
And what’s a weekend without the baby and puppy nap time 🙂
TGIF!!! We made it to Friday again and the sun is shining, can’t get much better than this! Looking forward to the weekend, hoping to get a little nice weather so we can enjoy a little time outside of the house. We’ve been dying to get down to the park and go for a walk through the woods. Cannot wait to let the little man run around the backyard and play in the dirt, should be a fun summer ahead for us! In anticipation of the weekend I was just looking over the pics from last weekend and my little photo opp:
I’ve been working at perfecting my photography and I must say natural lighting is by far my favorite to work with!! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!!
Was beginning to feel like this was the never-ending project with all of my other distractions but I have finally completed my crochet project!!! It’s a beautiful flower handbag!
I love the way it turned out and learned so much while making this piece. I will be putting a liner on the inside and it has a knit cord handle on top to be carried by. Beautiful little roses on each end of the pull cord make perfect accents to the piece and sticks with the flower theme. This handbag would be a perfect eco-friendly tote for weekend errands. Once I complete the liner I’ll be taking some new pics and will use a light background to fully accentuate the piece, I feel like that red is a little overwhelming.
Let me know your thoughts and please check it out in my Etsy shop!!
